Biography

I am a sociolinguist based in France. I currently hold positions as Junior Lecturer in English at the École Normale Supérieure de Lyon and Researcher in Interactions, Corpus, Learning & Representations (laboratoire ICAR). Previously, I have held teaching and research posts at the Université de Fribourg (CH), the École Nationale Supérieure d’Architecture de Strasbourg and the University of Strasbourg, where I am also an affiliate researcher in Language and Society. I received my M.A. in English Education from Columbia University and my PhD from the University of Strasbourg, in cooperation with the University of Glasgow, in September 2024.

My work sits at the intersection of sociolinguistics and social-semiotics, focusing broadly on the representations of language and cultural contact between the United States and France. I have examined this contact as it emerges in the Linguistic Landscape of Paris and as it is represented and mediatized on Instagram. I have also conducted research on French-English bilingualism and cognitive handicaps, on the status of minority languages in Alsace and on the language attitudes of L2 English speakers toward non-standard varieties of English.

As a researcher who regularly engages with dynamic visual content, I am also an advocate for revitalizing how data is visualized in academic settings. My interest in design, urbanism and Linguistic Landscape has been fostered significantly through my work at the École Nationale Supérieure d’Architecture in Strasbourg, France, where I served as Head of Languages from 2020-2024.
